Brief History about Sio Se Pol Bridge Isfahan

Before we start to tell the story of how Sio Se Pol became Sio Se Pol, we should mention that there are 11 bridges on Zayandeh Roud River and this bridge is the longest among all. It has 297 meters in length and 14.75 meters in height. This can be one of the reasons why Sio Se Pol is more popular than others.

The construction of Sio Se Pol Bridge dates back to the Safavid era (17th century). It was built during the time of Shah Abbas reign. The bridge was first called by the name of its constructor, Allah Verdi Khan, but after a while the named changed to Sio Se Pol, which means “33 bridges”. The reason for assigning this number to the name of this bridge is that it has 33 arches. The reflection of the bridge into the water of Zayandeh Roud makes the most breathtaking image, that’s why this bridge is more popular in the night. Moreover, it has a quiet and calm atmosphere, which makes it a great choice for most tourist to walk over at night.
